A long time ago UNIX-systems were said
to be hard to use and difficult to learn. About 2 years ago
some Linux programers faced this problem and started a
project named "KDE".
The operatingsystem Linux just cares for the hardware like
harddisk, graficdevice etc. to be adressed in the right
way. You don't have a user interface integrated into the
operatingsystem as you might know it from Windows.
This seems to be a disadvantage but if you look a bit deeper
in this matter, you could see the actual strength of Linux's
approach:
you have the choice to install your own user interface which
you like best. One of these user interfaces is
KDE which
unites several features from Windows, OS/2 and Macintosh.
There are many other user interfaces e.g.
Gnome,
WindowMaker or
Enlightenment.
They all satisfy different demands and wishes.
